Cycling is a competitive sport in which cyclists compete in both professional and amateur events. The main venues for competitions in this sport are Asia, America and continental Europe.
In the CWG, India has never won a medal in cycling. Considering the recent improvement of Indian cyclists on the world stage, the Commonwealth Games will be a good opportunity for future Indian athletes to interact with the legends of the sport.

A Manipur native born on June 22, 2002, was named after Ronaldinho Gaucho rather than Cristiano Ronaldo or Ronaldo de Lima. Ronaldo de Assis Moreira is the real name of Brazilian great Ronaldinho. In 2002, Roben Singh, Ronaldo’s father, was a CRPF jawan and was in Srinagar, Kashmir to watch Brazil take on England in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals. In that match, Ronaldinho stole the show with a fantastic free-kick, and legend has it that the moment the ball went in, Roben learned that his wife was giving birth at home.
He was India’s biggest chance to compete against top Asian riders from Korea, Malaysia and Japan. A silver medal in the sprint, two bronze medals in the team sprint and the time trial, as well as a national record, would have been a fantastic peak for him on any other occasion, especially because they came at his first continental championships.
