9 deaths in 5 road accidents
Nine people, including three teenagers, were killed, while scores of others were injured, in five separate traffic accidents in Dinajpur, Barishal, Jashore and Bogura yesterday.
In Dinajpur, three grade 8 and 9 students were killed at Birganj upazila.

The dead were identified as Md Shahadat Hossain, 14, son of Afsar Ali, Shahriar Shuvo, 14, son of Jahangir Hossain, and Muzahid Hossain, 13, son of Md Sukkur Ali.
Shahadat and Shuvo were ninth grade students, while Muzahid was an eighth grade student at Kabi Nazrul High School.
Meraz Ali, Birganj’s fire and civil defense officer, said the boys went to school on a motorbike to complete the admissions process for their new year at school.
They later went for a bike ride on the Dinajpur-Panchagarh highway when a microbus hit them at around 12:40 p.m. After they fell on the road, a high-speed truck ran over them, leaving Shahadat and Shuvo dead in place.
Residents rescued and transported Muzahid to the Birganj Upazila health complex, but medics declared him dead on arrival, Meraz said.
In the Birampur upazila in the district, Rajib Uddin, 63, was killed when a high-speed van struck the rickshaw he was in.
Suman Kumar Mohanta, head of the Birampur police station, said Rajib, a vegetable trader, was in the Dhaka Mor area on a rickshaw when the pickup hit them from behind around 11:30 a.m.
“He died while being taken to hospital by locals,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Barishal, three people, including an expatriate, died after crashing their motorbike into a roadside tree in Muladi upazila.
The dead were identified as Idris Hawlader, 60, Harun Noli, 45, and Rajib Noli, a Bangladeshi non-resident of Oman.
Mr. Maksudur Rahman, OC of Muladi Police Station, said the three were on their way to Mirganj from Boriya Kazirchat when they crashed into a tree by the side of a road and died instantly.
In the Amtala district on the Jashore-Magura highway, a cyclist died yesterday afternoon after being run over while driving a recklessly driven bus.
At least 30 bus passengers were injured in the incident and sent to Jashore General Hospital for treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Yakub Ali, 52.
According to Mokarram Hossain, deputy inspector of the Ichhali police outpost, the bus lost control and ran over Yakub when he took to the road by bicycle. He died instantly.
The driver and his assistant fled, he added.
In Bogra, a motorcyclist died after being hit by a van during an election campaign organized in violation of a law in this area.
Nitish Chandra Majhi, 42, was on the Chapapur-Bihigram road in the Adamdighi upazila of Bogra during a rally in support of the nominated candidate for President of the Awami League, Shamsul Haque, in the Champapur UP elections .
Residents seized and vandalized the vehicle, but the driver escaped.
In accordance with Article 6 (a) of the Rules of Conduct for UP Elections, no candidate or political party may organize a public meeting or procession, except for street and private meetings. However, the campaign ran with more than 200 motorcycles, residents said.
Jalal Uddin, OC of Adamdighi Police Station, said the body was handed over to the family because no complaints were filed.
The CO said the procession was a violation of the code of conduct, but that it took place without notifying the police.
